Regarding the Cambridge Philosophical Society and William Whewell (pronounced who-well)...Am currently reading "The Philosophical Breakfast Club" by Laura J. Snyder (ISBN-10: 0767930487 ISBN-13: 978-0767930482). It is the story of a small group of influential friends consisting of William Whewell, Charles Babbage, John Herschel, and Richard Jones. I highly recommend this book for students of math and science.

Bob, I totally agree. A really great read. My post on "How the term scientist came to be" was based mostly on that book. Thanks
